Germany's Sender Raises $ 80 million to Shake up the Road transport Industry

Sennder, the German start-up specializing in digitized road freight
transport, is raising $ 80 million just a few months after a first
funding round of $ 160 million. It is now valued at over a billion
dollars.
Sennder, a European specialist in the digitization of road transport, has an
nounced a new fundraising of $ 80 million. This new funding round,
announced on Tuesday, June 1, 2021, follows on from the  160 million
dollars raised last January  by the German start-up and thus brings
the total amount of the fundraising to 240 million dollars.

The start-up founded in 2015 ensures to win the status of unicorn with
this fundraising since it is now valued at more than a billion
dollars. Among its investors, a newcomer: Baillie Gifford, who has
added Sennder to its European Growth Trust portfolio.

A PLATFORM OF 12,500 TRUCKS

Thanks to its platform, Sennder establishes a link between companies
wishing to ship goods and those specializing in road transport. The
Sennder platform currently includes 12,500 trucks and offers more
routes to shippers and carriers as it grows.

This is, moreover, one of the objectives of this roundtable: to
accelerate its European growth. The German unicorn aims to strengthen
its position in the markets where it is already present and develop
its offer in new regions.

This could be done through the establishment of a partnership such as
the one concluded with Poste Italiane, the Italian postal service,
which has led to the setting up of a joint venture on the spot which
has become the largest domestic FTL freight forwarder.

The start-up also merged with  its French counterpart Everoad  and
bought Uber Freight's European activity  in September 2020. Sennder
also took over Cars & Cargo, a Dutch logistics player, and signed a
strategic partnership with Zeitfracht.

It is now targeting further acquisitions of local road freight

companies to improve truck supply and increase network density

on its sennOS platform ,"the company said in its statement.

According to the company, "the funds will also be used to finance
research and development for the automation, digitization and
decarbonization of road freight." With its 840 employees in its eight
international offices, Sennder now wishes to shine in the reduction of
carbon emissions. It hopes to achieve more than a million loads in the year 2021.
